In April 2015, I went to work in Copenhagen for two weeks with a team of nine graphic designers, industrial designers and researchers to spearhead a project to revolutionize SmartRG’s packaging. The objective was to find a way to save money by making the packaging smaller and more compact to reduce volumetric shipping costs from China, and to also find ways to make money by creating a program to add custom branding options for the customer at the point of sale. We were able to increase the number of units shipped per palette from 240 to 320, and also identify several ways to enable sales to capture more revenue by charging for custom box wraps, quick start guides, stickers, and more.
